Dear Parents and 'Ohana

Ho akeolapono Trades Academy & Institute, in collaboration with Kanuikapono Public Charter School, is thrilled to introduce our new One-Year Trades Internship Program. Designed to help high school students achieve real-world independence, earn essential graduation credits, and jumpstart lucrative careers right here on Kaua’i, this hybrid track combines mathematics, physical conditioning, and advanced building sciences to prepare our youth to become tomorrows master builders and serve our community.

Monday-Friday 12:00 PM-4:00 PM

Students do not need to be enrolled at Kanuikapono to participate

Hosted on-site at Kanuikapono Public Charter School while live field training site rotations

Paid stipends are available for eligible students ages 16 and older.

ANNUAL CURRICULUM SEQUENCE

Q1

FALL

Foundation & Framing (Fall)

Safety first: OSHA standards, tool identification, and blueprint reading. Math svnc: fractions, measurement accuracy, and structural geometry. PE: upper body conditioning. lifting posture, and toolbelt stamina.

Q2

WINTER

Advanced Vertical Building (Winter)

Wall framing, structural roofing, and building envelopes on live project omponents.

Math sync: linear algebra, cost estimation matrices, and truss calculations PE: balance, endurance, and multi-hour stock stamina.

Q3

SPRING

System Intros - Electrical & Plumbing (Spring)

Fueling wire, circuitry layouts, and pipeline geometry. Introductions to Nã Wähine and mechanical trades pathways. Math sync: amperage equations, system load balancing, and slope formulas. PE: flexibility, fine-motor precision, and overhead work mechanics.

Q4

SUMMER TRANSTION

Capstone Build & Höike (Summer Transition)

Finishing work, interior trim, and final structural inspections on community housing units. Math sync: punch-list accounting and final project auditing. Celebration: Community Hoike with ‘ohana, küpuna, and union trade representatives.
